Blackjack – The ultimate game of skill
The origins of Blackjack are not entirely clear, with many countries claiming it as an off-shoot or variation of a game started centuries ago. No matter where the game originated, it has become one of the most popular table games in casinos across America. The objective is always the same no matter where you play - beat the dealer
Here is how to play. All players begin by placing their bets. Each person, including the dealer, will then be dealt two cards. The player’s cards are dealt face up, while the dealer receives one card face up and the second card face down (hole card). Each person plays individually, comparing the value of his cards against the value of the dealer’s cards.
If a player’s first two cards are an Ace and a 10-value card (K, Q, J, 10) he has blackjack and is paid 3:2, unless the dealer also has blackjack. If a player does not have blackjack, he can take extra cards (or hits) to get as close to 21 without going over. Should a player go over 21 he has gone "bust" or lost.
These are basic guidelines for play and do not guarantee a win on the Ocean Jewel.
Blackjack Terminology
Blackjack – Ace and any 10 value card (K, Q, J, 10) on the first two cards
Stand – The player is satisfied with his hand and does not want to take another card.
Hit – The player is not satisfied with his hand and would like to take a card to get closer to 21.
Splitting – The player is dealt two identical cards and now has the option to split the hand and play two hands at once. An additional wager equal to the original wager must be placed and, the player must complete play on the first hand before playing the second.
Push – The player and the dealer have hands of equal value. In this case the wager is neither paid nor taken.
Double Down – On the first two cards of an initial deal the player has the option to double his initial bet, except when the total of the first two cards dealt is 21. However, the player can only take one hit from the dealer.
Insurance – A player can take one-half of his initial bet and place it on the insurance line provided the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace and other players have not received any additional cards. If the dealer’s hole card is a 10, Jack, Queen, or King the player wins the insurance bet. If it is any other card the player loses his insurance bet. |
