Craps – The ultimate game for excitement

Craps has been depicted in countless movies and on television as the game where all the excitement happens. Superstitions abound with people blowing on the dice for luck or clutching a lucky rabbit’s foot. One thing always holds true in craps though, the excitement always begins with a roll of the dice.

Craps Terminology

Come Out Roll - The first roll of the dice signaling the start of a new game or the first roll of the dice after a previous player fails to make his Point. If a player rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 on the first roll of the dice he has made the “Point”.

Pass Line - A Pass Line wager is placed immediately prior to the Come Out roll. A player wins on 7 and 11 and loses on 2, 3, or 12 on the Come Out roll. If any other number rolls, it's his "point." If his point rolls before 7, he wins. If 7 rolls before his point, he loses and the dice move to the next shooter. Pass Line bets cannot be reduced or removed after the point is established. This bet pays even money.

Don’t Pass Line - This is the reverse of betting the "Pass Line." You lose on a "natural" 7 or 11, and win if a 2 or 3 rolls (12 is a "standoff," no one wins). If the dice roll 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 it becomes your "Point" and you win if 7 rolls before your "Point" is repeated. You lose if your "Point" is made before 7 rolls.

Come Bets – On all Come Bets the player is betting with the dice. Come Bets are made any time after the Come Out roll. A player wins by rolling a 7 or 11 and loses on craps 2, 3, or 12. Any other number combination becomes the player’s come point and the player wins if it is made before a 7 is rolled.

Don’t Come Bets – This is the exact opposite of a Come Bet.

Place Bets – A player can make a Place Bet any time on any or all of the following numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. If a player’s number rolls before 7 the player is a winner, if the number rolls after the 7 the player loses his bet.

Buy and Lay Bets - Buy Bets are usually made on the 4 and 10, while Lay Bets are usually made on the 4, 5, 9 or 10. The player wins on a Buy Bet if the number rolls before a 7, and wins on a Lay Bet when the 7 rolls before the number. A five percent (5%) commission is charged for these types of bets.

Proposition Bets – All of these bets are one-roll bets. The following bets are examples of Propositions.

Bets:

  • Hard Way Bets - There are four Hard Way bets: 4, 6, 8 and 10. For a player to win on a Hard Way bet the dice must show a pair before the number 7 or any other combination of the Hard Way number.
  • Craps and Eleven - When betting on the Craps and Eleven, a player wins if the next roll is 2, 3, 11 or 12.
  • Horn Bets - Horn Bets are won if the player’s next roll is 2, 3, 11 or 12.
  • Field Bets - In Craps if a 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11 is rolled, the player wins even money. If a 2 or 12 is rolled he wins at a ratio of 2 to 1. If any other number rolls he loses.
  • Any 7 – The player is betting the next roll of the dice will be a 7.

These are basic guidelines for play and do not guarantee a win on the Ocean Jewel.
